Professional basketball player, Olympic athlete, businessperson, actor. Born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. Considered one of the best basketball players ever, Michael Jordan dominated the sport from the mid-1980s to the late 1990s. He led the Chicago Bulls to six national championships, and earned the National Basketball Association's Most Valuable Player Award five times.

Before I start in on his basketball career I wanted to know some of Michael Jordan's background.  Michael was not the rags to riches story you see on ESPN documentaries, he lived comfortably. He was born to James and Delores Jordan who both worked well paid jobs. He was the 4th Child born into the family with 2 older brothers, an older sister and a younger sister as well.  A few years after Michael was born, his parents were concerned about raising their family on the mean streets of Brooklyn, where drugs and violence could become a way of life for those who could not stay away from the streets, which didn't happen too often. they moved the whole family to Wilmington, North Carolina, the small, more suitable place to raise a family of 5 children.

He was an athlete no doubt he loved playing football, baseball and basketball. His parents showed them to work at something towards something you think you can be successful in and because Michael had no intentions of growing to 6'5 since their was no history of height in his family he chose to play baseball as a child, and was considered the best in his league pitching and playing Outfield.Michael's love for basketball began when his older brother, Larry, continuously beat him in one-on-one pickup games that actually provided him any challenges which at last determined him to become a better player. Shortly after realizing his love to basketball, he moved right into JV basketball. Michael thought he was going t get a shot on the varsity team when they needed one more player but he was cut, he was 5'10 at the time and a 6 foot 5 inch player was chosen instead.

This experience encouraged Michael to start working harder than ever on his basketball skills, and the result of that can be seen in the near future as he dedicated himself to make his own varsity team, he began to cut classes and go to the gym to practice. He was at that time practicing every day after school with his brother Larry. From his sophomore to junior year Michael had shot up from 5'10" to 6'3", he made his varsity team and as a senior was a top recruit for the University of North Carolina. Shortly after he graduated he received a full scholarship from the North Carolina Tar heels, this is the school Michael decided he wanted to play at.The day Michael Jordan stepped on North Carolina's basketball court is the the day the revolution of #23 began, basketball would never be the same after that day.
